Pearl Jam – Wishlist

Posted in Entertainment, Poetry, Videos by zenmaster on July 17, 2007

Remember the quote “I wish I was as fortunate as fortunate as me”? Yeah, indeed, I’ve promised to you earlier that I’ll blog about this. And now, I’m going to write about it, specifically about my favourite Pearl Jam’s song. Wishlist is one of my Pearl Jam’s Big 5 (Alive, Jeremy, Betterman, Rearviewmirror, Wishlist). Unlike the other Big 5, this song is slow and relaxing, yet moving. I call it the semangat song. Likewise, you may call it a love song, lullaby, pop song, easy listening, slow rock whatsoever.

Interestingly, many listeners acknowledge that Wishlist is arguably the most easy Pearl Jam song to play, even the beginner can play it in a jiffy. As a guitar noob, I have to agree with them. There’s only 3 chords involved F, G and C (both open and power chords). Of course, there’s guitar licks and solos, but only simple ones. So, you’ll save your fingers from getting blistered. Electric guitar and ebow are optional because of the 2nd (volume swelling) and 3rd (sustain) solo. Wishlist is fun to be played on acoustic guitar, too. Click the following links for, bass tab and guitar tab.

The best part of this song is the lyrics itself. It’s very simple yet it’s poetic and full of meaning. According to the Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam’s frontman), he made a wishlist as a reminder for him to fulfilled his desired dream. At the end of the day, he resolved it with the line I wish I was as fortunate as fortunate as me as a sign that he contended with his dream already. God, I even modify the lyrics into my own “wishlist” occasionally. I will write my own poem based on the Wishlist lyrics itself.

I wish I was a neutron bomb for once I could go off,
I wish I was a sacrifice but somehow still lived on,
I wish I was a sentimental ornament you hung on,
The Christmas tree I wish I was the star that went on top,
I wish I was the evidence I wish I was the grounds,
For 50 million hands upraised and open toward the sky.

I wish I was a sailor with someone who waited for me,
I wish I was as fortunate as fortunate as me,
I wish I was a messenger and all the news was good,
I wish I was the full moon shining off a Camaro’s hood.

I wish I was an alien at home behind the sun,
I wish I was the souvenir you kept your house key on,
I wish I was the pedal brake that you depended on,
I wish I was the verb ‘to trust’ and never let you down.

I wish I was a radio song, the one that you turned up,
I wish, I wish, I wish, I wish……..**

** The lyrics might be altered by Eddie from time to time, depending on the location of the concert.

R.I.P Chris Benoit

Posted in Asides, Entertainment, News, Sports by zenmaster on June 26, 2007

Whilst searching for the latest news on Digg, I was shocked by the news of WWE professional wrestler (to a certain extend, actor) Chris Benoit found dead in his home together with his wife and children. The news isn’t fabricated like Mr. McMahon’s death. It’s real. R.I.P Chris. You’ll be missed. 😦

STAMFORD, Conn., June 25, 2007 – World Wrestling Entertainment was informed today by authorities in Fayette County, Ga., that WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, his wife, Nancy, and his son were found dead in their home. Authorities are investigating, but no other details are available at this time.

Instead of its announced programming for Monday on USA Network, WWE aired a three-hour tribute to Chris Benoit.

Chris was beloved among his fellow Superstars, and was a favorite among WWE fans for his unbelievable athleticism and wrestling ability. He always took great pride in his performance, and always showed respect for the business he loved, for his peers and towards his fans. This is a terrible tragedy and an unbearable loss.

WWE extends its sincere condolences and prayers to the Benoit family and loved ones in this time of tragedy.

QOTSA – Avon Performed By 4 Different Drummers

Posted in Entertainment, Videos by zenmaster on June 25, 2007

Just in case if you’re scratching your head pondering what the heck is QOTSA. Well, it’s a short for Queens Of The Stone Age. Sounds gay, but heck, they rock to the core. Anyways, here’s the same song performed by different drummers.

Alfredo Hernandez (1998 – 1999)

Gene Trautman (1999 – 2002)

Dave Grohl (2002) <———— this is da’ bomb!

Joey Castillo (2002 – current)

Personally, I think Dave Grohl is the best candidate to become a permanent member of QOTSA, for what it’s worth. Too bad, he has Foo Fighters to take care of. Joey Castillo is too fast for my liking. Must be because of his punk rock background. But nevermind, that what makes QOTSA a democratic band. Hiring lotsa musicians, making it very diverse.

So what’s your pick.

Side note: QOTSA’s new album, Era Vulgaris (Vulgar Years in Latin) is now released. Do check it out. 🙂

Ricky Gervais Is Back

Posted in Entertainment, Humor by zenmaster on June 12, 2007

It’s pretty hard to find British humor on TV nowadays (except for the Mr Bean infinite reruns). The Office (UK version, mind you) was aired on 8TV before but the time slot allocated was horrible, which is 12.30am (for god’s sake, this is not prime time slot) Not many people appreciate witty British humor or what? Maybe. Anyways, Ricky is back with his new flick, it’s called Extras. Extras depicts about a person who quits his job to pursue his dream as an actor. But it turned out to be worse. He’s offered as a keh leh feh (supporting actor/extras) instead. What happen next?

Remember to tune in on 8TV at 12.30am this Friday. Mmmkay. Sigh! No more aired already. 😦

Extras on BBC.

Who’s Going To Shave His Hair? Donald Trump Or Vincent McMahon?

Posted in Entertainment, Interesting Stuff, Sports by zenmaster on March 21, 2007

It’s been a while since I’m keeping track on sports entertainment. While watching RAW at mamak stall, my jaw dropped because Donald Trump is involved in the feud (only on the ring, not in real life) with the owner of the WWE in the battle of the billionaire storyline (it’s scripted anyways). On Wrestlemania, they will be competing each other in the Hair vs Hair match represented by the wrestler of their choice. Donald Trump is represented by Bobby Lashley. Whereas, Vincent McMahon is represented by Umaga. Either of them will lose their hair whoever lose the match.

Due to his super size ego and extreme care of his combover, I doubt Mr. Trump is willing to shave his hair. In other words, Umaga is destined to lose the game. Well, it’s a professional wrestling afterall (Professional as in acting). Imagine if wrestling is just a regular sports like golf and cricket, I will die a horrible death due to extreme boredom.

Result: As expected, Mr McMahon lost the match and had his hair cut bald. Ahaks!

Picture Of A Day

Posted in Entertainment by zenmaster on November 2, 2006

The picture above (taken from daily) shows a couple of Freddie Mercury and Mary Austin. OK, fine. This picture is available on Wikipedia, but I post it here just in case the picture is removed by Wikipedians.

It’s believed that Mary is the last girl lover nobody can replace her, before he had a promiscous relationship with a guys (yes, guys). Imagine if Freddie and Mary become a lifetime couple, they will producing a multicultural child (Parsi + English). Think about Salma Hayek and Penelope Cruz.
